Quick Adventure:
Baja Whale Watching Tour
Gray Whales of Magdalena Bay
Magdalena Bay is
a series of lagoons sheltered from the Pacific Ocean by low barrier islands and
is the winter breeding grounds of the California Gray Whale. The whales travel
5,000 miles from their Arctic feeding grounds to mate and bear their young in
these protected waters. You can experience the whales and their newly-born
calves surfacing just a few feet away from a motorized skiff, and if you're
lucky, reach out and caress this extraordinary mammal.
"This was a great trip
and fulfilled all our expectations. We had a great time and the whale watching
was superb. Our three guides were the best we have ever had on a trip. They
were personable, knowledgeable and friendly. The food was excellent and the
happy hour was a welcome addition compared to other companies we have
used." -- David & Becki Sawyer, Baja's Desert Whales
We offer two different
itineraries for you to observe gray whales and discover Magdalena Bay's
diverse, fascinating ecosystem of windswept sand dunes, vibrant desert flora
and mangrove-lined estuaries. All itineraries offer guaranteed whale
sightings.
Our five-day Gray Whales
of Magdalena Bay whale watching tour includes three days at our exclusive safari-style base
camp situated on a secluded beach at the center of whale activity. It is the
perfect place to see the gray whales as they breach and spy-hop right in front
of our camp! The area around our camp boasts the highest concentration of
whales in Baja. Each day motorized skiffs take you out to the deeper waters of
the bay, where "friendlies" swim up and greet us. On shore your guides
will take you hiking, birding and beachcombing.
Our six-day Gray Whales of Magdalena Bay itinerary includes four days at our safari-style base camp. In the afternoons, our guides will take you exploring the mangrove channels in our stable sea kayaks. These sheltered waters are a perfect venue for trying a sea kayak for the first time. Sea kayaking is optional for those who do not wish to kayak, there is dune hiking, beachcombing, swimming, and whale watching from shore.
The camp provides all
the gear and amenities you need for a comfortable wilderness experience. Your
guides point out wildlife and prepare all meals. Ideal for families with
children ages 8-18 and those wishing a shorter, more focused experience with
whales.
"I loved the trip and it
exceeded my expectations. It was an incredibly wonderful experience that I
highly recommend to others. The whales are a definite highlight, but the
relaxed pace of exploring nature and enjoying all aspects of it, from the bird
life to the constellations, all make it a stimulating and inspiring
experience." -- Lisa Jensen, Baja's Desert Whales
