The Yoga trip follows the locations of Isla Espiritu Santo Kayak itinerary.
In addition this trip will:
Start your day on a serene sandy beach with a yoga session.
Finish your dayt in a restorative yoga session each evening while our guides prepare your dinner.
Have our talented and certified Yoga Instructor as part of the journey.
Our yoga will be relatively simple as we will be practicing in the natural environment. Morning sessions will emphasize loosening up and strengthening the body for the day’s paddling, along with some energizing of the mind and spirit. Evening sessions will emphasize unwinding and relaxing the body from the day’s adventures. Since we’ll be practicing mostly on sandy beaches, a heavy large beach towel may work as well as a mat (which you are welcome to bring). An extra towel could also be rolled up as a bolster. Blocks (the light foam kind) also may be useful to raise the seat up off the ground. Bring at least a strap, as reclining strap-assisted stretches are especially beneficial for counteracting the upright seated position we’ll be in while paddling.
Meet our instructors:
November 2017 Instructor to be announced soon
March 2018 Instructor: Mike Beckwith
I began my yoga journey in the spring of 2009 in McCall, Idaho as I was recovering from treatment for a serious health issue. My wife and I began attending yoga classes together, and we became fully involved in a wonderful local yoga community. Essentially, yoga helped bring me back to life. I have since retired from a 40+ year professional career in the environmental sciences, natural resources management/restoration, and weekend whitewater river guiding and ski patrolling.
I completed the Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) program in the summer 2015 through Tantra Power Yoga in McCall. This well-rounded training from a knowledgeable and talented team emphasizes the elements of classical yoga, including study of the ancient texts, yoga history and theory, and asana (postures), pranayama (breath energy), and meditation.
Initially I undertook yoga teacher training only to expand my own knowledge and practice of this ancient science of body, mind and spirit. However, when one our yoga teachers at my home YMCA in Wenatchee, WA lost her house to wildfire in the summer of 2015 and needed time off to rebuild, I volunteered and have been teaching there regularly since then. I thoroughly enjoy teaching yoga, especially to those with some physical limitations, and/or those who may not envision themselves in the gym or studio setting often typified by glossy magazine pictures. I find it extremely gratifying to help bring yoga to people of all levels of practice, because doing so advances and enriches my own.
As a former ROW guide, I also find it extremely gratifying to have seen ROW develop over the years into the truly world-class adventure travel operation it has become. I am very grateful for this opportunity to share that experience with you, combined with my vision of yoga as it was developed over 5,000 years ago – yoga practiced in astounding beauty, in the natural environment with all its elements, as a means for humans to come to realize their true selves and nature and place within the infinite universe. Namaste’.
